Victoria Ladies Wing Chun

In 2019 a group of Chinese dance ladies under the artistic direction of Guimei Yang, decided to make up their own Wing Chun for the opening performance of Chinese new year’s show held annually at the University of Victoria, BC, Canada. The show directors did not want the violent self defense aspect of Wing Chun but just to showcase some form. The ladies were asked to have a very narrow stance because of the clothing they were wearing. My teacher’s teacher Master Wong Kiu said that Wing Chun was changing so much that perhaps someday it will become some kind of a dance.Perhaps this performance is what he had in mind.

Now I tell my students that if Guimei Yang could teach a group of ladies in three months of an hour a week practice her Wing Chun routine as well as her Chinese drumming and dance routine, then why can’t you guys remember the “Siu Nim Tao” form even after a year?
